In the Philippines, the most common joke of parents about how to get twins is "Just eat twin bananas!" and it is always something to laughed about. I have a twin and we have joint blog by the way, Presentation Animations, check it out. But Anyway, this post is not about me and my twin like I always do when I talk to people about my life (it's common for people that have twins to do that). Rather, this post is about some fallacies of How to get twins.
Lately, having twins have become a fad. With Angelina Jolie having twins, who wouldn't want a twins of their own. However, coupling with the growing fascination of having twins are also a lot of fallacies on how to be pregnant with them.

Here are the very common fallacies I have read on getting twins. For me it is really quite funny.

1. Eating two bananas
Well, this is self explanatory.

2. Hereditary
People who have relatives with twins are likely to get pregnant with twins. Take not of the word likely. It means, there is a chance but not a100%.

3. If you have twins, you can't have twins
This is same as number 3.

4. Eating yam.
Is it really true? I think their is no scientific data on this one.

5. You have to be older to have twins.
It does not mean that you have to be on your 40s or 30s to have twins. Their is no scientific fact what so ever.

So this is my conclusion. If you want to have twins, go to your doctor. A real doctor. And ask him or her for the right procedures. Online help can be confusing at times.Some are wrong but some are somewhat right. So if you want to make sure you do the right thing, read online and then verify with your doctor.

PART I: Raising Identical Twins: The Celebration

Do you believe in miracles? Though I was brought up and schooled in a Christian School , I was never a religious fanatic and I was skeptic about things, that there is always an explanation for whatever occurrences. Never did I imagine that, in my own biological make up, a miracle would happen.

I had tubal-ligation (the old surgical procedure where the fallopian tube is cut), after my third baby. According to my gynecologist successive pregnancies and subsequent successive caesarian sections thinned the linings of my ovary. Another pregnancy is detrimental to my health.

One day after almost nine years from that surgical procedure, I passed off. I felt an unusual tiredness and had fainting spells. I was brought to the hospital and had several laboratory tests on my blood and urine samples. It took rather slower in the 80’s, we waited for an hour or two.

Finally, the doctor summoned us to her clinic. There she broke the news, explained to me that my fallopian tube re-canalized or just plainly joined and healed. So I got pregnant! In that out of a hundred thousand tubal-ligations, the probability of re-canalization is almost impossible. Her explanation mattered less at that point in time. I was stunned, worried but happy. Who wouldn’t be? After a long while and getting pregnant again, I’m worried for my baby. It’s like getting pregnant for the first time. But, I felt so happy and blessed. It’s a miracle and I am “wonder-woman!”
Online Advices:

So, I followed doctor’s advice, religiously took my prenatal medications, ate proper diet, exercise and rest. However, unlike my previous pregnancies, I had very amusing dreams in the first two month. I dreamt that an octopus with eight tentacles was moving inside my womb in different directions. During my prenatal check-up, I told my obstetrician about my weird dreams and she too was amused. She heard two heart beats but was not clinically sure that I had multiple fetuses because fetal heartbeats does not accurately tell whether its only one or two fetuses in the early stage of pregnancy. At that time, there were no ultra-sound devices or medical equipments available in our area that could detect what is inside the human body.

The following month, my third month of pregnancy, the doctor listened to my tummy’s heartbeat again. This time she is sure there were two distinct heartbeats. I have twins! I can not explain why I cried. It was not something new to a family. Both my paternal and maternal ancestry has a history of multiple births. My father had a fraternal twin sister who died of high-fever when she was eight. My mom had triplet sons but they unfortunately didn’t survive. She lost them when the hospital where the babies were confined was bomb and totally burned down by the Japanese during World War II. She had to leave the babies under the care of an American doctor stationed in that hospital. She had to flee the area with my father who was a USAFE soldier and the triplets were too fragile to travel. My mom never missed visiting the place where my triplet brothers died every “All soul’s Day”.

I belong to a prolific family being the youngest among seventeen siblings. My twins daughters are the 21^st pair and many multiple births came before and after them. We are no longer surprise when one of our female family members has twins or triplets. What amuses us is having identical twins because they are more interesting than fraternal twins.

In the 7^th month of my pregnancy, I was overweight. I had difficulty walking because I couldn’t see my toes. I couldn’t sit properly without pillows behind my back. I couldn’t lie down comfortably without enough pillows to put me in an incline position. I couldn’t sleep well because the two creatures inside me were super active. They were playing and enjoying their time. I always pant. The babies were too heavy for my small 5 feet 1 inch and 109lbs frame. This was how I weighed prior to my pregnancy.

When the final moment came, on April 28^th of 1986 dawn, I had one special request before my caesarian section. I want the doctors to play a classical music of their choice during the procedure. Bethoven’s symphony completed the aura of the greatest celebration of my life. The operating room was transformed into a cathedral…

I was conscious in the entire surgical procedure. It would have been different if it were done today, complete with all the modern medical facilities. Without these, surgeons rely on their training to determine what the position of the fetuses, and they were very good at it. Dra. Brenda Reyes Taborasa, one of the best obstetrician-surgeon in Silliman University Medical Center , Dumaguete City noticed that the fetus were embracing and clinging at each other. She was at first worried if they were conjoint in the stomach. However, she was relieved when she gentle loosens both and got them at barely two minutes interval.

No amount of tears of joy could be expressed when the world welcomed my lovely cherubim’s Rose and Pearl… healthy baby girls at 6lbs and 8 ounces and 6lbs and 3ounces. (To be continued… Part II)

A tip from a Biology Teacher: We came from the same egg

When asked about myself, I would directly talked about me and my twin and refer to me as US. This is common for most twins especially for identical twins since we were born from the same cell.

However, I did not know his fact until my biology teacher in my 5^th year in college explained to me in front of the whole class that my twin and I came from one sperm. All this time, I thought that I was from a separate sperm as my twin raising and ending in one track line. In my 22 years I thought I was the different raiser. But it seems that I am not.

My teacher, Ruth Gamboa, said that my twin and I came from one sperm. As it fertilized the egg of my mother, then we separated. It was also a miracle because we should not have been separated since according to her, usually the egg do not separated.

It is a shocking story. Just as I woke up, I immediately browse the daily newspaper and read that the oldest woman to give birth named Maria del Carmen Bousada at 69 died living her nearly 3 year old twin sons alone. The alleged cause of the death was stomach cancer.

It is indeed a sad story, just after she finish taking care of her mother, she decided to have a baby at 66 years old with invitro fertilization, the not so latest technology of getting a baby and apparently getting twins.

Contrary to popular beliefs on twins, twins do not really have the same interest. My twin and I for instance have had several similar and different interest since birth. She used to love dancing more that singing and I used to love the other way around. I love drawing and just being an academic person and she was just used to playing around lightly with school

But when we became older, we exchanged likes, I started to love dancing and not with the academic side anymore and she started to be serious with studies.

I know a twin who also has the same path. The other one loves to dance and the other one loves to just be the wallflower. But They still stay as closed as they can be.

This is the MAGICAL thing about twins. They get along even if they do not have the same interest. and they could always COMPROMISE for the each other encase if they both need to enroll to it by obligation.

Twin's Illness: Genetic or just plain Contamination

I'm blogging about the question "Do twins have the same illness or do they have sickness on the exact dates?" People usuallly ask me and my twin about these questions and we somteime find it a little stupid but we do not really know the right biological answer. We'll I am not here to tell you what the answer is, I am just here to give tell you my twin an I's experience and the possible reason for these phenomena.

When we were still little kids, my twin had a heart problem. Her heart was bigger that her bones and that is the reason why I have to bring her bags full of twelve 300 paged books. She had this problem ever since she was born. I didn't have that illness, but I had sinusitis which was also hard and embarrassing as compared to her illness.

Anyway, she frequently had severe asthma, but I not. But when she gets a fever or a cough or when I get a cold, we both have the virus. So why is this this way? hmmm...well, may be it's because of contamination because we usually sleep in the same bed, share the same glass or plate even if the other has fever or colds or whatever virus ridden illness.

So I guess, it's not really true that twins share the same sickness. I don't have a heart problem and she has no sinusitis problem. But the sharing of sickness is when the virus kicks in....and contaminates the two..

I miss writing in this blog I have been really busy lately and there seem to be no time to do more research at all. today, my Twins and I are moving to a space on our own. We moved to a new but old place. It's still feels the same though except for the fact that we have to buy our own coffee. It's not easy waking up in the morning and not smelling coffee.

I have to talk about Mailboxes. I realyy do not have any idea about Mailboxes. In the Philippines, Mailboxes are not that popular espacially in Mindanao because houses are not far away from the gates of the house. Instead of Mailboxes, people just give their letters directly inside the front doors or the main entrances.
But in suburban areas where fences are far aways from the houses and huge,Mailboxes are used. Some of the best Mailboxes can be purchased in hardware stores but they do not have all the choices.
If I would have a mailbox at home, I would prefer to have them really very decorative because they are the thing one first see before going inside the house. It's amazing how people can be so technological these days. Imagine babysitting using a nanny camera. Imagine having a computer as a nanny. Your kid talks to eat. It feeds your kid, etc. I'm not really a fan of these kind of technologies. Tell me that I am so outof date but I still treasure a real live human being to keep track on babies than a nanny camera.

When I was still a kid with a twin and all, I had a nanny. Not only one nanny but lots of nannies. Infact, we had a nanny that were also twins. Isn't it funny? It was kinda cool because we thought having twins as our nannies as a real role model.

Now, if we had nanny camera for a nanny instead of the real human being, what would have happen? We would have been modeling on machines instead of human beings and to think machines look alike as to twins who also look alike. It's metaphorical ain't it?

Now, bottom line is I don't want a nanny camera. But, there are also advantages for these kind of nannies especially to career oriented parents who do not want to get bad nannies as a risk for their children. Hmm..it's so confusing..

Is the death of the earth near?

This week, I watched the documentary Signo on the GMA tv. It was really alarming because of the signs of Global Warming which are already present in the Philippines. The abrupt change of the weather are great signs. Sometimes it is too hot and most of the time it is too cold even during the Summer.

The documentary said that there are so many things that could damage the earth even in the most simple things we do in out everyday lives. An example is by charging the cellphone. These technology may be great put if wasted they can damage the earth and probably put it to its death.

But sometimes technologies are not always bad. Some conform to the EHS Compliance Software EHS Metrics Software EHS Software implementation which mean that they are environment friendly. Which also means that they do not contribute to the killing of the earth so to speak.

A multi media on twins DNA should be made in order to inform people about how twins are made. It's like truss system where two DNA are sort of equal but different.
I saw a banner stand on exhibit on twins in in the website. It showed the explanation on twins. Maybe an organization should do these exhibits...something to think and plan about.

I read from a magazine somewhere about twins with different skin because of exposure to sunlight. One of the twin was over exposed to sunlight because of too much sun tanning at the beach. Too much sun tan can result to Acne Treatments which can be an eyesore to the face.

With My Twins
Planning on a vacation this summer? It's not always easy to decide where because of all the limitations. My twin Pearl and I want to go to somewhere fun but because she got sick, we have to stay in Davao City. But there's not so much fuzz. Davao City also has a beautiful beach in Samal.

My boyfriend who also has a twin also plans to go to Dumaguete for a summer vacation. He said, resort hotel Rentals are easy. It is just like renting a condo. Hmm "mahal naman..."

I heard that there are so many villas in the Philippines where I could visit with Twin beds and King Size beds and rooms for everyone. That is why my twin, my boyfriend and I want to go there this summer.

Directed by Ben Sombagaart, this movie is a story about TWINS separated by the consequences of their time. I was touched by this movie because of how it showed the effect of twins being separated. It has a very bad effect and I wouldn't want to be separated from my twin at all.

The movie is et in the World War where the Nazis hated Jews and vice versa. The twins where separated; the other in Germany and the other in Sweden. When they were separated, they became very depressed but still long to contact each other. but then their adpoted paremts did not allow them too.

The Wins thinking that they were abandoned by each other started to hate each other. Inevitable things happen which made them even feel apart. The other married a Jew and the other married a German officer.

At the end of the story, they reconciled and the other twin died with redemption.

Both stare into the camera, one slightly smiles and the other slightly frowns. The parallelism and haunting nature of the photo has been the subject of many essays. The twins were seven years old when Arbus spotted them at a Christmas party for twins and triplets. The twins' father once said about the photo, "We thought it was the worst likeness of the twins we'd ever seen." [1]
The photo has been said to sum up Arbus’ vision. Biographer Patricia said, "She was involved in the question of identity. Who am I and who are you? The twin image expresses the crux of that vision: normality in freakishness and the freakishness in normality."[2]
The photo has also inspired other art and is said to be echoed in Stanley Kubrick's film The Shining, which features twins in an identical pose।

Identical Twins is tenth on the list of most expensive photographs having sold in 2004 for $478,400.

Fil-Canadian twins Nicole and Dhayna Lemay. This 18-year old twins sister are partners in synchronized springboard events and are competing in the 2007 Seagames in Thailand. They were born in Toronto.

The twins have the same built and lines as you can see in the photo. They made heads turn because of their likeness. Amazingly,twins still are head turners up to this day.

Eng and Chang - The Siamese Twins

Chang and Eng, born in 1811 in Melange, Siam, gave a new phrase to the English Language. They were the first, the original Siamese Twins, a term used to describe any two humans being joined at birth by living tissue.

When news of the strange and unusual reached the king of Siam, he decided the babies should be put to death. King Rama II thought such a birth was an evil sign, an omen that something bad was going to happen. As time passed and no disaster occurred, King Rama II withdrew his decree of death for the twins. As young boys, Chang and Eng loved to fish with their fisherman father. They learned to use the oars and row with great ease. Their arms and legs grew stronger each year.

At the age of 16, Chang and Eng were presented to King Rama III of Siam. Shortly thereafter their newly acquired managers, Captain Coffin and Robert Hunter made plans to exhibit them throughout the world. For the next several years they were exhibited before hundreds of thousands of people. In England they bowed before kings and queens, prince, and princesses, but by the end of the evening, the royalty was bowing to them. Chang and Eng entertained their customers. Battledore and shuttlecock was a popular British game at that time. The twins had played it in Siam. The object was to hit a shuttlecock, a small cork ball with feathers on one side, back and forth. The audiences oohed and aahed as they watched the twins play. Chang and Eng moved across the floor with ease and grace of a couple skillfully waltzing. They answered questions from their audiences with clear and grammatically correct English.

In 1829 they left their country for America, and traveled over the whole of this continent, England, France, and other countries, exciting the admiration of the crowds and others who had reported upon this singular phenomenon in the natural world.

Tired from being exhibited for ten years, the young men decided to settle in a small town in North Carolina. Wilkesboro was one of hundreds of small towns the men had been exhibited in some two years previously. In this small town they found a peacefulness and a new home.

Chang and Eng loved this new countryside, where the mountains reached to the sky and the streams flowed across fertile soil. The people were friendly and sincere. When they talked they spoke of their families and their crops. Coming with $10,000, Chang and Eng purchased a retail store and sold everything from linen to "chawing" tobacco. Unfortunately, times were hard for area residents and the twins gave up their store and decided to take up farming and built a house in Traphill, a community in northern Wilkes County.

In 1839, Chang and Eng became citizens and acquired their new name of Bunker. This was about the same time they became interested in the Yates sisters, Sallie and Adelaide. After courting for several years, the foursome were married at the Yates house. After a wedding party, they were off to their Traphill home where they shared a large bed built for four.

The people of the community thought surely no children would come of this union. However, nine months after the wedding, Eng and Sallie welcomed their first born daughter. Six days later, Chang and Adelaide welcomed their first daughter also. This continued until Eng and Sallie had produced 11 children. Chang and Adelaide were almost as productive producing 10 children.

As times grew harder and children increased, problems became numerous. The two sisters fought and put Chang and Eng into the middle of their battles. Soon the brothers turned against each other and bitter fights erupted, Chang drowning his problems in whiskey and Eng playing poker, therefore two houses were needed. These two houses were built in White Plains, Surry County, NC and less then two miles separated them. The wives lived apart, only Eng and Chang shared three days with Sallie and her children and then three days with Adelaide and her children. This arrangement continued for the rest of their lives. When times got rough, Eng and Chang would go on exhibit for a year, each taking a child who also performed in the show.

After many childhood illnesses and a stroke suffered by Chang, the twins shared their lives until the end when on a cold morning, January 17, 1874, Eng woke to find his brother cold. When he realized Chang was dead, Eng began to sweat and feel faint. He died less than thirty minutes later. They are buried in the White Plains Church Cemetery in Surry County, NC, the church they helped to establish.

Have you ever watched the movie "Double Trouble". It is about these twin brothers who were totally opposite from each other. The other twin was a crook and the other worked for the law enforcement agencies.

Davil Paul and Peter Paul starred in this movie. I watched them together with my twin a long time a go. We were also together with our daddy who introduce us to them.

These brothers are the funniest twins that ever lived.

Hi there dear readers. Thank you for viewing this blog made for twins. This blog features different twin sisters and brothers may be identical or fraternal.It is very special to me because I also have a twin sister and I am acquainted with twins alot. I have twin cousins, I had three pairs of twins as friends and my boyfriend for now has a twin.

Anyway, I featured the Olsen Twins as a launching of this blog because they where the first celebrity twins that inspired my twin and I.
They were our favorite then when they we're still very cute and cuddly.

I could never forget there favorite expression in Double Trouble "NO Way, YES Way!"..
My twin and I sometime imagine that we were the Olsen twins then. We don't do that now becasuse well even if these twins are still cute, they have other adolescence problem that we don't really like....you know what I mean?
